El Viejo Molino - Self-catering house in Huelva
Camino de Cortegana, 21290 Jabugo, Huelva
Andalusia,
España
This converted olive mill has been creatively designed and most of the bedrooms are separate from each other so you'll feel quite private. Lola, the property manager greets you and can arrange activities to fill your days: from horse-riding to guided walks, stargazing and biking, plus mushroom and chestnut picking in the autumn and winter too.
A very large welcome pack includes bread, wine, cold meat, eggs and marmalade – quite enough to have a light supper and breakfast before you go out and shop. Jabugo is a five-minute walk and has a host of tapas bars and restaurants, or you can drive seven minutes to Bar Camacho in the village of El Repilado for one of the best fish restaurants in the area.
A terrace overlooks a couple of old water mill ponds plus a pool for cooling off and has views spanning the valley to rolling hills beyond. Bird watchers and nature lovers will be happy walking the trails and may spot a deer.

Local points of interest from Nick Blackwood:
Puntos de interés sobre la región de
Nick Blackwood:
- Jabugo is an old town of some 2,500 people renowned throughout Spain for the quality of its smoked ham, "Jamon iberico de bellota". Visit the most famous of the factories for a wonderful tour, Cinco Jotas and Jamones Eiriz
- El Viejo Molino is in a Parque Natural, hilly walking country of cork oaks, holm oaks and chestnuts. Hot in the summer, but with a breeze often blowing through, the old Mill's thick walls retain the cool of the evening
- The countryside invites walking, from easy to the longer more strenuous hikes, mountain biking and bird watching. The birds include Black Vulture, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Golden Oriole and many other wonderful species to attract the avid birder
- Surrounding villages tell of a Moorish past with each village celebrating a number of fiestas into the early hours. Charming restaurants abound and the finest pork found anywhere is not to be missed
- The Rio Tinto mines, in operation since well before Roman times, still produce a range of minerals, and are well worth a visit
- And further afield, and easily reached, are the great Spanish cities and towns of Andalucia: Sevilla, Granada, Cordoba, Ronda, Cadiz and Jerez
