Tucked away in a village where rolling farmland nudges the foothills of the Sierra de Cuera, is a 1990s version of a traditional Asturian house, a small hotel surrounded by lush meadows, grazing cows, and dry-stone walls. Such is the beauty of Asturias.
Bedrooms are big and light with an air of colonial elegance. Two have their own patios leading to the grounds - a semi-tropical, four-acre paradise designed by María Eugenia.
Start the day with an Asturian feast of pancakes, tortilla, granola, numerous breads, and honeys and jams. Spin off on the bikes, or take a put on the golf course by the sea. Or follow the glorious coastal path - by pony or on foot. If energetic pursuits do not appeal, then visit the cider houses of bustling Llanes, a ten-minute drive... Sirio and María Eugenia know the best places. An ideal first stop after a long ferry trip with little ones: the hotel is an hour from Santander.
