Savour fresh Atlantic seafood matched with the best Galician wines; gaze over a green valley alive with Albariño vineyards. Or sip a glass by the pool – this is all about life's pleasures. The century-old stone buildings cluster beside their namesake chapel in an untouristy, vine-ringed village, ten minutes from sandy Rías Baixas beaches by fast motorway. Nacho and Julio, from Madrid, have added two smart bedroom blocks, three rooms above the restaurant, a salon with open fire, a library with local artists' works, a vine-shaded patio. Rabbits scamper between fruit trees, a renovated horreo (grain store) teeters on high stilts, a hammock swings gently on the terrace. Nacho is passionate about good taste and finer details: the chocolate on the pillow, the colourful wall behind each bed, the beautifully restored furniture – La Colonial has a four-poster. But for many the star attraction is the restaurant, which has a reputation (and many awards) for top-notch Galician market cooking. In summer, Madrid's residents decamp here for beaches and wine tours; Nacho will point you to the quietest and best. Enjoy.

Ouviña & Ignacio Crespo:
- Drive to Combarro (12km) – it’s a pretty little seaside town with bars, restaurants, watery views and most interesting of all, a series of 18th century stone granaries on stilts on the seafront. They are a fascinating, historical site!
- Cambados is another little town we recommend – it’s 9km away. A historic gem on the coast with a main square surrounded by a stone manor house and church. The Albariño wine fiesta is held each July and August with music concerts and events here.
- O Grove (20-min drive) is at the top tip of the peninsula which sticks out of the west coast. Blue waters and sandy beaches await. There is an 18th century bridge which takes you to Isla de la Toja – the main centre of which is a dense pine forest.
- Santiago de Compostela is a 45-minute drive away, or you can catch a bus from Pontevedra. A stunning historical town, famed for being at the end of the Camino route, and today with many good seafood restaurants, museums and a contemporary art centre.
- Ask us about the best wineries to visit for tastings & tours! Galicia is home to 5 denominated wine regions - Rías Baixas which is home to the Albariño grape variety. Further inland are other regions Ribeiro, Ribeira Sacra, Valdeorras and Monterrei.
