Stylish bedrooms, scrumptious fish menu. Fill your boots (and pack your wellies) at this village gem in Derbyshire's lovely crown

The Cow is a smart and stylish gastropub facing the village green, with a friendly welcome, set deep in the South Derbyshire countryside.  Step inside to where the copper-topped bar gleams and the fire leaps in the old stone fireplace. Perch on an upcycled milk churn to down a pint of local ale and choose from The Catch - head chef Nathan's fresh fish menu with daily specials. Perhaps soft shell crab, followed by the baked whole John Dory with salsa verde, rosemary and thyme, Charlotte potatoes and seasonal greens. Leave room for the rich chocolate and raspberry torte. Upstairs, the bedrooms have padded headboards, plump cushions, gleaming linens, hi-tech touches and a warm glow from clever lighting. Bathrooms sparkle, and have attractive stone basins. Breakfast will set you up for a day of exploring the Dales; tuck into poached Finnan haddock or a three egg omelette. You're in Derbyshire's Golden Triangle so take time to admire the little villages and vast views.
