A lofty, spacious feel to this converted barn with stunning views over rolling hills, swooping swallows in summer and an honesty farm shop

Big grey gates open from a typical winding Devon lane to a beautifully-kept cobbled courtyard surrounded by old stone barns - some restored, some not. The first floor is an open plan vaulted space with large windows for that view, sheepskin-covered window seats and ample squishy sofas. Find board games, toys and books for rainy days and a gas 'log' burning stove to keep things cosy.

The kitchen has lots of kit for keen cooks, a large oak dining table and plenty of pretty Portmeirion pottery for sociable meals. Open the American style fridge to find a bottle of bubbly or cider. You're also left a super guide to the area with advice about walks, places to eat and things to do. Bedrooms downstairs are decorated with the owner's art, have proper linen sheets and each pillow has a bar of the Bly's special chocolate.

A shared space sells home-produced honey and Salcombe Dairy ice cream. You can borrow wellies and a barbecue.

Lucia & Dan Bly:

  • We're close to the coast (it's walkable!) and have over twenty different beaches within easy reach, we have a beach guide to all of our favourites in your accommodation - enjoy stunning scenery, surf, sun and seclusion on your doorstep...
  • Really foodie area - lots of lovely eateries in the vicinity so if you're looking for the freshest seafood, hearty pub grub, vegetarian, vegan, fine dining or relaxed family meals, we've got some top tips for fabulous places to eat out nearby
  • We are located within easy reach of boaty Salcombe, historic Dartmouth and foodie Kingsbridge - pretty towns to explore but where we live is rural and quiet, a great place to retreat to at the end of the day...
  • Walkers will enjoy some stunning scenery and wildlife along the coastal path near Swallows' Flight. Our favourite walk at Start Point passes by a lighthouse, a beautiful beach, farmland and a seal colony. Brewery, farm shop and Nature Reserve 30 mins walk
  • Activities locally include National Trust properties, boat trips, luxury spas, surfing, sailing, paddleboarding, fishing, shopping, wild swimming, hill running, vineyards, antique hunting, zoo, aquarium etc. all nearby
  • Hunting for treasures in Totnes market on a Friday, dinghy sailing in the Salcombe estuary, wine tasting at Callancombe vineyard, dining out locally on fabulous seafood, and waling the South West Coast path are our own favourite activities on our doorstep
