It's lovely here, so peaceful in your own private cottage perched above the Tamar; the views over the river are glorious and steep steps lead to the shore and a little jetty - borrow a canoe and paddle up stream. Rowers, geese and herons glide by on misty mornings; the woodland garden is full of spring bulbs, vegetables you can pick, free-range hens and chattering guinea fowl.
Settle on the cushioned window seat in the sitting room with toasty wood-burner, books, art and family photos; pewter jugs on a deep slate sill brim with flowers. The kitchen has a lived-in, charming feel with a cosy Rayburn. Sip coffee on the sheltered terrace that catches the morning sun. The light-filled bedroom has a comfortable bed, thick curtains and that view to wake to.
Delightful Trish can give you routes for good walks, lend you a map and suggest places to visit, boat trips to take. Nearby Tavistock has independent shops and a Saturday market.

Claire Morgan:
- On the border of Devon and Cornwall, the Count House is perfectly placed for exploring both counties. Cothele, Saltram House, Lydford Gorge, Castle Drogo, Antony House and Landydrock are all within easy reach and The Eden Project is just an hour away.
- Explore the River Tamar by canoe or fish for bass from the jetty just below the cottage. It's the perfect spot for dogs to swim and there's a hose and towels available to wash them after. Mooring facilities for large boats are half a mile down stream.
- Dartmoor is just 20 minutes drive away with wonderful walks and many good pubs. Walk a circular route from The Elephant's Nest and then enjoy a delicious lunch in the dog friendly pub. Or borrow bikes and explore some of the many off road trails around us.
- The north and south coasts are both about 1 hour away with rugged clifftops and secluded coves. Try surfing on the north coast or head south to the Rame Peninsula and enjoy fantastic views, maybe a swim at Whitsand Bay and lunch at The View restaurant.
- Cook a feast in the dear old Rayburn or treat yourself to a meal at the Horn of Plenty, Endsleigh Hotel or River Cottage Canteen. There are some wonderful pubs locally and a regular farmers market in Tavistock to gather supplies for a picnic.
- Join the scenic local train branch line in Bere Ferrers, a 30 minute walk away. Travel over the spectacular Calstock viaduct or arrive in Plymouth in 25 minutes and wander the historic cobbled streets of the Barbican or take the ferry to Mount Edgecombe.
