Mole End - Self-catering cottage in Isle of Wight
Undercliff Drive, St Lawrence, PO38 1XG Ventnor, Isle of Wight
England,
Royaume-Uni
Tucked into the Isle of Wight’s Undercliff, this charming Victorian cottage was once St Lawrence’s village inn. Today, local drinkers are long gone and this two-bedroom bolthole is now frequented by families and couples looking for a stylish island retreat. Lush vegetation, historic buildings and spectacular sea views surround you here. Step through the front door, framed by a rose-covered arch, into bright and cosy interiors. Tessa and Lev’s love for their delightful holiday cottage is obvious throughout – from the well-tended terrace to the claw-foot bath thoughtfully placed so you can gaze at the sea and sky while you soak. The homely sitting room is stocked with books, films and board games; a wood-burner sits within the exposed-brick fireplace – logs are on the house. An Aga (electric), Belfast sink and wooden table create a relaxed farmhouse feel in the kitchen, while there’s a barbecue for al fresco dining on sunny days. Upstairs, light-filled bedrooms have comfy mattresses and colourful prints on the walls. It’s a mile’s stroll to Ventnor Botanic Gardens or to beautiful, secluded Steephill Cove.

Lev Parikian:
- The Isle of Wight coastal path goes past our front door – perfect for walkers and bird watchers. It's a lovely 45-minute stroll along the cliffs to Ventnor.
- More than half of the Isle of Wight is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, including the area around Mole End.
- The Ventnor Fringe, held every summer since 2010, attracts over 300 performers every year, and is now established as one of the island's main attractions.
- The nearby Botanical Gardens benefit from the Undercliff area's famously benevolent climate to grow many plants considered too delicate for mainland Britain.
- The older of St. Lawrence's two churches, originally just thirty feet long, used to be the smallest parish church in England.
- In Victorian times the view from the trains that emerged from the St. Lawrence tunnel was said to be "the best and most dramatic in Europe".
