The Lion & Pheasant - Inn in Shropshire
50 Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury, SY1 1XJ, Shropshire
England,
Royaume-Uni
The foundations date back to the 16th century but there’s a welcoming bar serving great cocktails and numerous gins, and a big open fire in the dining area. The warren of bedrooms above are packed with character and atmosphere; find slipper bath tubs, cavernous walk-in showers and good views - those seeking more independence can opt for self-catering.
Food is very good: breakfasts are continental or hot, brunch goes on until midday so late risers can happily chomp bacon or sausage sarnies before heading out for the day; lunch and dinner menus are seasonal and change throughout the week and service is relaxed and friendly.
Explore the Stretton Hills and Long Mynd on foot, go canoeing and fishing on the river Severn. Return for afternoon tea in the café bar, then flickering candles and Wye Valley ales on tap – the smart Georgian building shines after dark. You’re central in town, for shopping, dining and the historic abbey.
