A charming 17th-century village inn, a destination place for foodies and real beer lovers, with very comfortable and stylish bedrooms

This is the closest pub to the Butcombe Brewery HQ and another belter for their collection. The award-winning seasonal menus include all the favourite pub classics, albeit in an elevated style, but also some innovative dishes from food sourced as locally as possible. Vegetarians and vegans aren't left out, there's a gluten-free menu, another especially for children and they do a mouth-watering Sunday lunch. Start with a cocktail, some fine wines by the glass or a pint of one of the famous Butcombe beers.

There's plenty of space downstairs just to sit about and read a paper. On warm days you'll be spilling out into the courtyard with its pretty festoon lighting, joining in a monthly outdoor cinema night, or enjoying a pint in the beer garden. Bedrooms are in two separate buildings, all with hugely comfy beds, Roberts radios and smart TVs, proper coffee and mini fridges with nice things.

It's a good spot for walkers and cyclists too.
