A one-storey, deftly restored 1860 barn in a quiet village, with a very pretty garden and stunning views over a wide valley with mature trees

It's a delightful spot. The village is picture-perfect with a rushing brook, ancient bridge, spring flowers and manicured gardens. Just up the hill you'll find Garden Cottage next to the owners' house, but facing the other way so you'll feel very private. Views from most windows are over the garden, a gorgeous space to loll on warm days, eating at the big table, listening to many birds, perhaps chatting to cows.

Inside is comfortable and cosy with a wood-burner (lots of logs supplied and more outside – it's a generous place), books, games and smart TV for rainy days. The swish kitchen is spacious, with a large prepping island and table so you can cook, chop and chat convivially. You'll find basics for cooking and a hamper of nice local things to start you off.

Borrow racquets for a game of tennis, delve down oodles of public footpaths, stock up at two farm shops nearby, light the firepit for dark skies, sleep deeply in rural peace.
