Secluded place with home-grown food, much peace and walks by the river for a couple (or small family). Courses and solo retreats too

Read guest comments

Fields of sheep and a rushing river surround this peaceful converted mill. You have your own wing with sitting room, separate entrance and garden so you’ll feel nicely private.

Your hosts' passion for living off the land is inspiring – meet their rare breeds of sheep, pigs and hens whose meat and eggs will end up on your plate, along with fruit and veg from the kitchen garden. Peacocks wander and the dogs, Golden Guernsey goats and geese are all part of life on this working smallholding - and you can sign up for craft and farm courses or a rejuvenating 'solo retreat'.

You're very well looked after: tea and cake in the conservatory, tasty breakfasts, a lunch platter if you don’t want to go out, or a packed lunch for day trips, and seasonal dinner with a bit of notice. It's a two-mile wander to the pub.

"We had 3 relaxing nights at the Lint Mill. We were spoiled by the comfortable and tasteful accommodation reflecting Deborah's care and attention which had all the qualities of a top hotel. This was coupled by the excellent attention to detail in the meals prepared and served by our super host Colin. All freshly sourced from the gardens of the Lint Mill. Overall it was a chance to experience a special approach to sustainable living with genuine hospitality with made Patrick's 60th birthday visit to Lanarkshire one to remember. "

"We stayed at The Lint Mill on our way to north Scotland and repeated on the way back down. A wonderful place to stay - so inspiring and peaceful. Would certainly recommend. Very good food cooked by Colin - would love to return."

"We stayed at The Lint Mill following a day cycling in Scotland's finest weather (rain all day, we were drenched). Colin had lit the wood burner and prepared a beautiful dinner for us, their hospitality was second to none. The selection at breakfast was more than ample and fuelled us nicely for another day in the saddle. The bed was super comfortable, so a good nights sleep. Our only regret is that we didn't have another day to enjoy ourselves here... Thanks again"

"Debbie and Colin's Lint Mill is a delight. The accommodation is very comfortable and pleasing to the eye. You have half the house - a lovely airy bedroom with bathroom and down the spiral staircase a cosy sitting room with woodburner and finally the conservatory where breakfast is served. Colin is a marvelous cook using mainly meat and vegetables from his small farm. Dinner is always a lovely occasion in Colin's own stylish conservatory. lovely place to chill out and recharge batteries."

"Attended Bread Matters course and needed a place to stay and what a gem I found. Being newly bereaved I needed to feel safe and secure. Colin and Debby were absolutely lovely, kind and thoughtful hosts. The food was devine. I took great comfort from the log burning stove which was still burning brightly when I returned home late in the evening from a long day. I would definitely recommend Lint Mill especially if you are a new widow travelling alone for the first time. I was lucky enough to buy some home reared Shetland lamb which I plan to enjoy again very soon. "

"If you love luxury, comfort, beautiful surroundings and care about how we look after our world and everyone and thing in it... Visit The Lint Mill. We just got back to London after a stay and we are already planning out next trip. We met all the animals and personally thanked the hens for our (ridiculously good) morning eggs. The attention to detail is second to none. Colin and Debby have literally thought of EVERYTHING to make it a very special place to feel part of, if even just for 24 hours. Attention to detail is second to none. Delicious, delightful and definitely going back."

"Stayed with Colin and Debbie for two nights on our return from holidaying in the highlands. Wonderful location, very peaceful. Enjoyed meeting all the animals and Colin and Debbie's approach to slow food and organic farming. Both evenings had wonderful food, all from the land on which we were staying. Definitely on our list to return when we head up to Scotland again."

"Yet another excellent stay. This was my second visit to Lint Mill and once again Colin and Deborah were the perfect hosts. My sister & I had a delicious local cheese & charcuterie platter in the evening next to a wood burning fire. The house is cosy & warm; every detail is considered for guest comfort. Lint Mill is also an excellent small holding where Colin produces many of the superb ingredients that he serves for both dinner and breakfast. Don't wait too long to book!"

"We really loved the Lint Mill. We have stayed at many Sawdays over the last 20 years in the UK, France and Italy and this really was the best. Colin and Debbie are delightful hosts the place is idyllic and Colin cooked us some lovely food for which he was totally responsible. Some really good wildlife too an otter, two herons, a dipper as well as all the usual garden birds. A real delight. "

"We have stayed with Debbie and Colin at the Lintmill on two occasions. We can truly say that this is the most idyllic place to relax in the most beautiful setting. Utmost privacy, wonderful food cooked by Colin and hospitality second to none. If you are looking for beauty, peace and serenity you should really pay a visit."

"Just magic - amazing everything - all home bred and cooked organic food, hospitality, attention to detail, beautiful, clean and uncluttered yet warm and homely, Debbie & Collin are lovely, welcoming, interesting and down-to-earth folks who are happy to share their small-holding experiences. We also enjoyed the excellent selection of CDs, collection of books about eco-living and meeting ALL the many animals - everything has character, nothing soul-less or mass-produced here!! Highly recommended by Soozy & Stephen :)"
