Parador 44 - Hotel in Cardiff
14-15 Quay Street, Cardiff, CF10 1EA, Cardiff
Wales,
Royaume-Uni
Stylistically, this is a one-off: a boutique British take on Spain's 'paradores' – the convents, castles and other historic buildings converted into lodgings by the Spanish state. This one's set in downtown Cardiff, though, lovingly converted by hardcore Hispanophiles the Morgan family, and offering nine artful bedrooms above their convivial Iberian grill, Asador 44.
It feels rather like a restaurant with rooms: duck along a maze of narrow corridors to discover your own tranquil boudoir, complete with ornately carved bedhead, terracotta urns, authentic Spanish tiles in the en suite. The spaces are snug but the important things are roomy: super beds throughout; thumping walk-in showers wide enough to lie down in.
This is a grown-up, treaty place, where the service is hands-off (but friendly) and the food exceptional, whether you're feasting on flame-cooked Welsh lamb or sipping a self-made cocktail on the rooftop patio.
