A pretty upside-down cottage, formerly a dovecote, lovingly restored with sustainability the focus

Up to the first floor for a spacious open-plan living, cooking and dining area with vaulted roof, wood-burner, soft sofas and cushions, plus good books and games – a lovely convivial spot for dining, reading, talking or watching a film together, without the cook feeling left out. Well-chosen pictures, pretty fabrics and 'objets' collected over time from antiques shops in Wales cast a homely light on it all.

Downstairs are a cosy double and twin, with sumptuous beds and linen and handmade cushions and curtains. The family bathroom is gorgeous with both bath and a walk-in shower. To the front you have a small gravel garden encircled by picket fencing, a cast iron table and chairs and a barbecue. This faces west for magical sunsets listening to birds, waiting for stars to appear.

Across the lane is the shared indoor heated pool (open from 7am till 9pm) and outdoor table tennis. There are three acres to roam and the Wales Coastal Path to join for stunning walks.

Lisa Kay:

  • The Secret Garden - Come on a very special treasure hunt, and find The Secret Garden in Tywyn! Right next to the Magic Lantern Cinema, enjoy cocktails, mocktails and cinema snacks in a very special location.
  • Dolgoch Falls Waterfall Walk - Dolgoch Falls are a series of three impressive waterfalls forming part of the Nant Dol-Góch stream, a source for the River Fathew, and can be reached via a short walk. There are a number of caves and tunnels which you can explore on the route up.
  • The Talyllyn Railway - The Talyllyn Railway is the worlds first preserved railway, and a must-have place to visit on your trip to Tywyn. Originally built in 1866 for carrying slate from Abergynolwyn to Tywyn, it runs for 7.25 miles through beautiful and unspoilt countryside.
  • Aberdfyi - Is just a 15 minute drive, beautiful white sand beach, lots of water activities, great fish and chips and the best ice cream shop around!
  • Castell y Bere - It may be remote, but Castell y Bere a magnet for all castle lovers. Strung along a jagged rocky outcrop in the Dysynni Valley at the foot of the mighty Cader Idris, Castell y Bere is especially good at evoking the spirit and atmosphere of Wales’s native castles.
  • Cadair Idris - Cadair Idris is one of Wales’s most iconic mountains, standing around 893m in height, and situated in Southern Snowdonia, overlooking Dolgellau.
