Ty Hedfan - Self-catering house in Powys
Pontfaen, Brecon, LD3 9RR, Powys
Wales,
Royaume-Uni
It’s enchanting up here, surrounded by trees and jutting out over the River Ysgir – the living space hovers suspended in the air with huge windows drawing in the light. Whatever the weather it feels dramatic. Cosy up in front of the wood-burner, watch a film, drink wine, play cards… There’s a second room for chilling out with a swing chair and a table overlooking the garden.
Cooks will love the large kitchen – eat here or in the sheltered ‘outdoor’ dining room. Watch the children splash about in the river or climb up to the treehouse. Bring a canoe, launch it off the small jetty and paddle downriver for miles.
There are plenty of maps and books for you to plan cycle routes, walks, watersports, horse riding – it’s only five miles to the Brecon Beacons. The Felin Fach Griffin (nine miles) serves great food. Head back for deep sleeps in stylish bedrooms – each with its own sleek bathroom.

Sarah Featherstone & Jeremy Young:
- Brecon is close by - an historic market town which is host to the famous Brecon Jazz Festival. The Hours Cafe/bookshop, is a great place for a coffee as are the Pilgrim's Tea Rooms at the Castle/Cathedral. The Bridge Cafe is excellent for meals.
- Hay-on-Wye, 20 miles East, is a beautiful little market town and host of the world famous literary festival. Its full of interesting shops, including Richard Booth's Bookshop /Cinema (also an excellent Cafe). St John's place is great for evening meals.
- The Griffin at FelinFach is a relaxed gastro-pub with very good food - a very dependable bet about 15minutes drive away from the house. http://www.eatdrinksleep.ltd.uk
- There are beautiful walks immediately from the house, which is surrounded by the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Black Mountains. Fishing, canoeing, climbing and mountain biking are all activities that are easily pursued in the area.
- Llantony Priory is a romantic ruin set in the beautiful and secluded Vale of Ewyas, which runs through the heart of the Black Mountains. There are great walks and cycling in the immediate area and the ruin itself has its own quirky built-in bar.
- The Green Man Music Festival is about 20 minutes drive away to the South, held in beautiful parkland near the pretty little town of Crickhowell (try The Bear for a drink or food). Abergavenny, also close by and has an annual food festival worth a visit.
