Explore the coastal paths on foot or by bike, or simply sunbathe next to the pool... Leafy gardens, comfortable rooms and excellent dinners

Read guest comments

With its wild windswept coast, Belle-Ile-en-Mer is an especially enticing island. Battered by storms in winter, it is hot and gorse-scented in summer and the roads are quiet. La Désirade, sheltered in its parkland, is made up of a new village of colourwashed houses round a pool. The leafy gardens, comfortable hotelly bedrooms and sauna, hot tub and hammam massage on offer will bring instant relaxation. Breakfast includes homemade cake, yogurt and smoked salmon and is served buffet-style by the pool on sunny days; dinner, formal but excellent, is in the hotel restaurant across the lane. The young chef specialises in local dishes and the presentation is impeccable; wines are paired perfectly too. Research the island’s possibilities curled up in a wicker chair in the reception salon with its unexpectedly blue fireplace: there are lots of illustrated books. Ask your hosts about the 104 kilometres of coastal paths and cycle routes to choose from, while the beaches are a 20-minute walk away. Take your paintbox and you’ll be in good company: Monet and Matisse both came to the island to paint.

  • Golf des Poulains : 14 holes amongst which the famous n°2 with its green set on a cliff surrounded by the sea !
  • Proud owners of the hotel for 14 years, we offer a symbiotic experience between the environment, our team, our guests and the locals. We speak English fluently so will welcome you warmly to our hotel!
  • The calendar of different cultural events (Art Lyrique, Jazz, Classical, Theater) will structure your summer nights. Enjoy our unique atmosphere which highlights the best of hotel and B&B guest experience. A home from home.

Guest feedback
"The staff were all charming, knowledgeable and helpful and made us extremely welcome. The room (a suite) was spacious, well decorated and had lots of pleasant features (tea/coffee making facilities would have made it perfect). The food both at breakfast and at dinner was excellent and although I though the charges for access to the spa were high I would highly recommend this facility for a peaceful relaxing break."
