Ferme de la Rançonnière - Hotel in Calvados
9 Route de Creully
Arromanches, 14480 Crépon, Calvados
Normandy,
France
Drive through the narrow arch into the vast courtyard and history leaps out to grab you. This was originally a fortified stronghold – the tower is 13th century – and later a working farm.
Packed to the gills with character; expect vaulted stone ceilings, ancient oak beams, limestone flag floors, spiral staircases and huge stone fireplaces all lifted with pops of bright, bold colour and William Morris fabrics. Bedrooms vary from cosy to deluxe, one is tucked at the very top of the tower, two have impressive vaulted ceilings. Gather every afternoon in the bar for tea, coffee and cake in front of the fire.
Breakfast is locally sourced and generous, served at flexible hours in the light-filled breakfast room or out in the sunny courtyard. The restaurant (open every evening and for lunch at the weekends) menus focus on modern French fare. Head outside for a game of tennis or giant chess while the kids let off steam in the play area.
