A sweet place for couples or young families (offering B&B or self-catering) where the food is home-grown and views sail over the hills of the Montefeltro.

The wholegrain bread, the rice cake, the yogurt, jellies and jams: all are homemade. The melons are tasty, the juice freshly squeezed; breakfast under the pergola is a delicious affair. Alice (who offers pasta-making classes) and Gavin, the loveliest couple you could wish to meet, are putting the final touches to an ancient cottage where once three families lived. On a triangle of land shared with hens, ducks and rabbits, flanked by two quiet roads – one to Sestino, the other to their house – Piccionaia is where the pigeons once lived, and Granaio is where the hay was stored. Next to the veg patch is the Bread Oven, which awaits its own transformation; on the terrace below is a small cooling-off pool (50cm deep!) or head off for fabulous wild swimming nearby. You can B&B here or self-cater, in simple kitchens where worktops are made of handsome chestnut planks, and Italian coffee makers take pride of place. In the larger Piccionaia, a perfectly balanced staircase leads to the bedroom upstairs; the shower, sofabed and wood-burner lie below. Towels hang from rustic ladders; white basins sit on recycled tiles; truffle hunts are planned… Wonderful.

"Good location for access to larger towns such as Arezzo, Urbino and Sansepulcro. Also to many of Italy's 'most beautiful town/village' sites. Relaxed environment and opportunity for flexible arrangements combining B&B with self-catering. Owners have lived in area 5 years and raised family there, so there are opportunities for informative conversations as well as delicious home made and grown food when required."

"Alice and Gavin made us feel enormously welcome at this wonderful gem of a place - totally off the beaten track. Beautiful views and comfortable and homely accommodation. Nothing is too much for Alice - from a welcome glass of wine, to local recommendations, accompanying us to a local festival, delicious homemade jams and pasta sauce, the loan of her very friendly dog, reading in the hammocks on the hill. We had a thoroughly relaxing and fun stay. Highly recommended!"

"A warm and friendly welcome - a fabulous meal on the terrace - and a great night's sleep. A perfect stop over on our way down from the Po delta. Alice and Gavin are perfect hosts. We stayed in Il Granaio, lovely and comfortable with beautiful views over the hills, and were served a delicious breakfast on our own little terrace. "

"Wonderful place, hosts are magnificently friendly, hospitable and thoughtful. Alice's cooking is quite amazing, such a fabulous selection of home produced meals, all of them fresh and so so tasty! The deep fried sage leaves in tempura batter a sensation, the sage freshly picked in front of our eyes, and the truffle frittata a taste explosion. The view from our breakfast terrace was just beautiful, and the whole place is so tranquil and relaxing. Can't wait to return."

"Sadly we only booked three nights in this comfortable Agriturismo, and we will definitely return to enjoy this wonderful, peaceful place. A highlight was the absolutely delicious food, with everything produced on site; their own sausages, home baked bread, eggs from their chickens, salad from the garden… Not just a beautiful place with lovely rooms, but also a culinary paradise! Highly recommended. "

"What a great place to stay, hidden away in the Tuscan mountains. Beautiful views, with such natural unspoiled surroundings, you can really feel the fresh air. Delicious food a real taste of Italy, loved learning how to make & eat fresh pasta with fresh hens eggs, fantastic hospitality Alice & Gavin. So cosy, will definitely recommend to friends as a destination to vacate to, great for bikers! or those who like an adventure. "

"Delightful new apartment stylishly furnished in a typical Tuscan stone house. Lots of atmosphere! A lovely setup with beautiful panoramic view over the hilly landscape. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was served with home made Italian food. The owner is also an excellent cook. We enjoyed a very tasty dinner. It is really a little piece of heaven. "

"This is an ideal place to stay for those seeking enjoy, good food, fine wine and country rambling. The guest house can be found in an idyllic countryside setting overlooking the town of Sestino. The apartment I stayed in had been decorated to a high standard and was extremely comfortable. Alice and Gav are the ideal hosts, attentive when needed with a wide knowledge of what the area has to offer through good connections with the local community. They are also very capable cooks and charming hosts who'll serve up a fine dinner based around the best local and seasonal produce."

"A perfect place to go and relax, with idyllic views over the Tuscan countryside and delicious homemade food from the garden. Alice and Gavin couldn't have been better hosts, going to great lengths to provide everything you could possibly need for a perfect holiday. The apartments are really comfortable and the restoration work has been lovingly undertaken with perfect attention to detail. We enjoyed on some lovely long walks, good food at the local Festa del Fungo, and also swam in a beautiful natural swimming pool / stream nearby. I can't wait to go back next year! "

"I was looking for a peaceful and friendly place in Italy, with great food, wonderful scenery, and easy and stress free access from the airport, and that’s exactly what I found. Alice and Gavin made me feel very welcome and relaxed as soon as I arrived, and soon enough I was sampling the wonderful delights of Alice’s cooking, using the best of locally sourced food, and produce from Gavin’s carefully tendered allotment. Alice and Gavin know the area and the locals really well, so they were never short of suggesting things to do. After five days I felt rejuvenated in mind and body."

"I had the absolute pleasure of staying at Ca'Valenzano in spring . The atmosphere is serene and genuine, a perfect place to relax and reconnect yourself to the Earth by walking the local hills, eating the local, home-grown food, and enjoying deep sleeps only disturbed by the offering of breakfast on the balcony! What Gavin didn't dig up from their garden, Alice magically produced from the larder - everything not eaten in season they preserve for enjoying later, from jams, chutneys, tomato sauce, salami and sausages. We also tried an excellent local argiturismo they recommended."
