Giant windows overlook many acres of farmland, and Jill and Blair look after you so well! Breakfasts are special with the best local produce, homemade granola, yogurt and more. Arrive for tea and lovely home-baked cake, laid out in a comfortable guest sitting room with a log fire and plenty of books and maps. Bedrooms are fresh and pretty with garden flowers, soft white linen on big beds and floral green walls. Gloriously large panelled bathrooms have long roll top baths and are painted in earthy colours. You can knock a few balls around the tennis court, and you’re near to good gardens and heaps of places to eat.

Jill & Blair Jobson:

  • St Mawes is a Mediterranean jewel. Enjoy gourmet ice cream on the terrace at the Tresanton Hotel. Catch the ferry to the hip town of Falmouth. Explore the creek by kayak. End the day with the Watch Out’s finest fish and chips on the beach
  • Carne Beach is our favourite with a mile long stretch of white sand and set against the dramatic backdrop of Nare Head. For a secluded cove, take a dip at Porthcurnick before ambling to the galleries and shops at the pretty village of Portscatho
  • Two close, unbeatable walks. Place to St Anthony takes you to the lighthouse with panoramic views of Falmouth Bay and beaches with no road access. A gentler walk from St Mawes to St Just-in-Roseland meanders along the water’s edge to a stunning church
  • Winter in Cornwall is just as magical. Coast paths and beaches are entirely yours. Shelter from the elements in cosy village pubs. Warm up in our six-foot long roll top baths then curl up in front of an open fire with a well-earned cuppa
  • The world famous open-air Minack Theatre is a highlight of a Cornish visit, built into the granite cliffside of the spectacular Porthcurno Bay. Wrap up in blankets and enjoy the theatre or just visit the sub-tropical gardens in the day
  • Our favourite gardens are The Lost Gardens of Heligan which sprawl over 200 acres and range from formal Victorian gardens to ancient woodland. Fabulous Trelissick is just over the King Harry Ferry with spectacular views down the Carrick Roads estuary.

"Hay Barton is an absolute gem - a beautiful old farmhouse, lovingly restored. Jill and Blair can't do enough for you, and serve the best breakfast I've encountered in any B&B anywhere (I'm vegetarian, so often it's a choice between eggs and eggs - but Jill followed homemade granola with poached eggs, spinach, beautifully done tomatoes, homemade baked beans...). I was in Cornwall on a research trip, and the rooms are more than spacious and airy enough to work in. The guest lounge is a lovely space that you actually want to use, complete with an open fire that made it perfect for February."

"Our 4 night stay at the Hay Barton in January was wonderful. Jill and Blair looked after us royally, from the warm welcome, most delicious breakfasts ( I loved the home made granola, yogurt and fruit), lovely open fires, helpful suggestions for where to visit, walk and eat and for making us feel very comfortable through out our stay. Excellent."

" It took all of 5 minutes for us to move our minds into this perfect world. All the pressures and stresses are still there but they don't matter. Lengthy descriptions of the place can be summed up in one word. Perfect. Breakfast goes beyond perfection even if that is impossible. The eggs were fresh, they came in from the chickens, still warm, 20 minutes before being presented to us. The granola, the yoghurt and the marmalade are homemade whilst almost everything else is sourced locally. For us breakfast is usually a term for a rushed small meal; here it was a relaxed gastronomic experience. "

"We would like to heartly endorse what others have written abut this wonderful B and B and their delightful owners. We stayed three nights taking advantage of Hay Barton's proximity to the fabulous coastal walks and NT properties in the region. The legendary breakfasts were enough to carry as through to evening pub suppers even after walking several miles along the coast!"

"We have just spent four days at this excellent B&B and were pleased to find that Sawday had not let us down - Hay Barton is as good as these previous reviews suggest. Jill and Blaire were so friendly, and even gave us advice on chicken rearing. Don't be afraid to try this B&B if you have a food allergy - I am coeliac and Jill coped admirably. The gluten-free breakfasts were just as good, and Jill provided delicious gluten-free cakes and biscuits for tea. Whilst in a quiet location, this B&B is well located for lovely walks and gardens; and a wide range of options for dinner. Recommended!"

"We have been staying here for some time now and it gets better and better. Nothing is too much trouble and Jill and Blair's attention to detail makes a stay at Hay Barton very special.Go on treat yourselves!!!"

"This is as good as it gets, we felt. Jill and Blair Jobson are attentive and friendly hosts who run an exceptionally comfortable, well-provided B&B in a lovely part of the country. Like other reviewers, we timed our walks to enable us to enjoy Jill's delicious cake at tea-time! Her breakfasts were also delicious and the rooms very comfortable and well supplied with little luxuries (not least the DAB Roberts radio). I'm diabetic but don't expect special treatment when staying away. Jill had better ideas, however, and went out to get low-sugar jam and marmalade and even peanut butter. This attention to hospitable detail characterises Jill and Blair's approach to their guests. They combine a very welcome informality with an evident determination to be the very best. We'd love to go back and have already recommended Hay Barton to friends and family."

"We had a lovely three nights here. Jill's tea and cake drew us back every afternoon - delicious! Her breakfasts are equally delicious, so you'll need plenty of activity. A work-out on the newly re-surfaced tennis court provides an opportunity to work off guilt or calories from the lovely food you are sure to consume! Our room was very nice, fresh and clean; the bathroom was just as lovely with a long bath perfect for relaxing in. Good places to eat nearby, but you do need a car. We hope to return, thank you Jill and Blair."

"We just loved it here. You feel at home from the moment you step over the doorstep to the utterly unwanted moment of departure! Upon arrival we were welcomed with a tea tray of delicious homemade lemon sponge before going up to our room which was was spacious, spotless and very pretty. The ensuite bathroom next door had a magnificent claw foot bath and the toiletries supplied were high quality and generous. Breakfast with fresh fruit and home made granola was delicious and who would have thought that a boiled egg de-topper, an antique hand down from distant relatives, existed! Friendly and patient hosts - thank you Jill and Blair. Hope to see you again."
