A Grade II listed semi-detached farmhouse that dates back to 1662 with beautiful views over the Mallerstang Valley and Wild Boar Fell

Architect and designer Georgina Rose (former architect of Soho House) has led the renovations and there is real attention to detail everywhere you look. Lamps and pieces of furniture have been picked up on travels or come from the family - it feels homely but nicer than being at home. On a cold wet day you have two log burners to sit by and there are plenty of books, or guides to plan your next adventure. The garden has a patio and large lawn, perfect for children and dogs, who'll also like the pond. A summer house, barbecue and fire pit out here make long summer evenings very special.

The kitchen is extremely well equipped but the owners can give you details of local chefs if you'd prefer not to cook. You're welcomed with a hamper of freshly-baked sourdough, award winning marmalade, homemade cake and biscuits.

No light pollution gives you starry skies and the peace is palpable - just sheep.

Local points of interest from Peter Jaques-Walker:

Punti d'interesse locali da
Peter Jaques-Walker:

  • We are within the newly extended Yorkshire Dales National Park, and well placed for day trips into the Lake District. We are just ten minutes from Junction 38 (Tebay) on the M6, making us the ideal stop off to break up long journeys.
  • We are a 2 mile walk from the village of Ravenstonedale, which boasts two cosy pubs, both serving excellent food. We overlook the Wild Boar Fell - the perfect place to go walking in splendid isolation, with only the wild fell ponies for company.
  • Wild swimming at Catagill Scar, on the River Eden. There is an almost secret pool in a river glade, just down stream from the ruins of Peddragon Castle.
  • Road cyclists can explore the network of quiet lanes surrounding the house, which lead to some fantastic routes and some more challenging climbs, such as Tan Hill or the Lakes & Dales Loop.
  • We are one of the darkest sky areas in England, which provides great opportunities for star gazing – particularly from the garden looking over the Mallerstang Valley
