Jean's Cottage - Self-catering in Cumbria
Jean's Cottage, Ulpha, LA20 6DX, Cumbria
England,
Regno Unito
This cosy cottage, once a travellers' inn, was the village post office from 1890 to 2020. You can feel its history in the pop of red from the still-in-use telephone and Victorian post boxes, the sturdy beams and smooth flagged floors.
The owners have renovated with care, shining a light on charming original features while adding smart, modern must-haves. Underfloor heating, two sitting rooms, art-lined walls, a boot room for wet gear and a spacious, well-equipped kitchen with lovely pottery make staying here a dream. You'll eat at the wooden table looking up to the mighty fells (The Caw). Upstairs, two inviting bedrooms complete the picture.
Sip your morning coffee on the sunny patio before striding into the countryside, hopping on a bike or dipping in the river. Return from lakes and fells, fire up the wood-burner and settle in with a board game while supper cooks. On summer nights, stargaze around the fire pit on the lawn.
