7 The Grove - Bed & Breakfast in Devon
Totnes, TQ9 5ED, Devon
England,
Regno Unito
In the heart of higgledy-piggledy Totnes you’ll be welcomed by Bethan and John with your own floor and the use of a sunny sitting room. Breakfast is served when you wake - home-baked bread, fresh juice and compotes using fruit from the garden, a full English if you want.
The big garden has plenty of hidden corners you're encouraged to explore and includes three small ponds and flower beds where wildflowers are allowed to romp. Behind a stone wall is a vegetable and fruit garden where priority is given to produce that is good to pick at and eat raw.
It’s a short walk to Totnes’ high street, weekend markets, independent shops and restaurants. A half hour drive south gets you to sandy beaches for walking, swimming and surfing; the same distance west and you're on Dartmoor.

Bethan Edwards & John Paige:
- In the centre of a thriving market town, which is both alternative and historic, from the B and B you can easily explore the many independent shops and the busy week-end markets. In the evening, walk out to eat in the many cafes and restaurants.
- Walk along the River Dart.Follow the Dart downstream to the Sharpham Estate, famous for its cheese and wine, and tour the vineyard. Upstream, walk to Dartington Hall with its newly opened Deer Park, lovely gardens and delicious food at The Green Table.
- Travel back in time on the South Devon Steam Railway. Break your journey at Staverton with a walk by the river or, particularly, if there are any children in the party, call in at the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm to feed the animals and stroke a guinea pig!
- All the way to Dartmoor, there are many places for wild swimming. At high tides, cruises run up and down the river to Dartmouth, with a link to another steam railway. The famous River Dart seal may also be spotted from the town bridge or Vire Island.
- Ten minutes walk from the Grove,Totnes Castle towers above the town. It will allow you panoramic views and a great place for a summer picnic. In the High Street, the Brutus Stone marks the place a Roman general, allegedly, first set foot in Britain.
- Totnes is the capital of the South Hams, an AONB. Thirty minutes to the south are spectacular beaches and cliffs, perfect for walking, swimming and surfing. Thirty minutes to the west is Dartmoor, open moorland studded with granite tors.
