Bulleigh Barton Manor - Bed & Breakfast in Devon
Ipplepen, Newton Abbot, TQ12 5UA, Devon
England,
Regno Unito
Tea and scones will be waiting. Find long, leafy views to wake up to, a pool for lazy summer days, ponds and a big colourful garden with a summerhouse. Liz and Mark have restored their house with care, uncovering beams and lovely bits of old wood and filling it with original art and books. Bedrooms are inviting: sink-into beds, china pieces on white window sills, a pot of garden flowers, local fudge and homemade cake. They are keen on sourcing the best local produce and their host of hens lay your breakfast eggs. Dartmoor and the south coast are at your feet; return to a friendly hello from Zennor the dog by the fire.

Liz & Mark Lamport:
- We're five miles from Totnes, a unique town with scores of delightful medieval buildings and the home of the transition town movement. Best of all it's on the River Dart. A paddle steamer trip down to Dartmouth is a great way to see the area.
- Explore Dartmoor, one of the first national parks to be created and the largest open space in southern Britain. It bears the imprint of human habitation dating back 6000 years. Now wildlife has reclaimed the moor, ponies graze where once there were mines.
- Visit Britain's seafood coast, said to produce the best fish in the UK. The capital is Brixham where you can dine in a seafood restaurant overlooking the harbour and watch as they land the local specialities, Dover sole, turbot and shellfish.
- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle came to Ipplepen to research the legend of the supernatural hound that stalked Dartmoor, on which his book The Hound of the Baskervilles is based. Few people now claim to see the hound but the house where he stayed still stands.
- Follow the Agatha Christie literary trail through South Devon. See her holiday home, Greenway, and the places that inspired her work. From the boathouse at Greenway to the secluded Elberry Cove, her murderers lurk in every corner of this landscape.
- Coleton Fishacre, the country home of the D'Oyly Cartes, was built in the 1920s. The love and passion poured into the creation of this house and garden is evident. Upstairs and downstairs are lovingly preserved, visiting pianists can play their Bluthner!
