The long, 17th-century building is set back from the road and has footpath access to the river Test. The bar and dining areas are relaxed and informal – the oldest part with low ceilings, chunky beams and a double-sided fireplace with a wood-burning stove. The main dining area is in a light and airy conservatory extension with doors to the terrace. Tuck in to a mix of traditional favourites and more inventive dishes – all ingredients sourced as locally as possible, including 'chalk stream' trout from the Test.
Bedrooms (six upstairs and six down) are all decorated in a similar style with supremely comfy beds, Porcelanosa bathrooms and Scottish Soap Company goodies. The downstairs bedrooms have their own private terraces with tables and chairs. Wake to a hearty home-cooked breakfast then head off to the river or for wonderful walks.
In summer you'll be on the terrace, real ale in hand, enjoying the sunshine and choosing what to eat.
