Escape to this contemporary barn on a friendly farmstead with fern-fringed cliffs and walks galore on your door. Ask about ferry discounts

Buddle Place is on the southern-most tip of the Island with huge sea views. The walking here is fantastic, and your converted Victorian cow barn has a hall with heaps of space to store boots and things.

Open the French doors to the terrace for al fresco meals, sit out in the south facing garden with the sea peeping through the trees. Underfloor air source heating and wood-burner (logs supplied) keep everything toasty, the kitchen has all you need and there are music/TV gadgets for downtimes. You’ll find a loo upstairs by the two bedrooms, and the bathroom is back downstairs.

It’s an AONB and you’re on the coast path. Families will be happy with Blackgang Chine, trails and expeditions at Ventnor Botanic Garden and the trio of tip-top beaches (Ventnor, Sandown and Shanklin) all within easy reach.

Local points of interest from Jay Lowein:

Punti d'interesse locali da
Jay Lowein:

  • St Catherines Lighthouse is a few hundred yards away, close by is Castlehaven with its small fishing harbour, beach cafe & the opportunity for a swim from the slipway
  • Walk up to 'The Pepperpot' on St Catherines Down - Britain's only surviving medieval lighthouse. There are spectacular views from here to the mainland & all around the island. Extend your walk 2 miles further to the Hoy Monument.
  • Visit nearby Ventnor Botanical Gardens nestled in the Undercliff with its unique micro climate. Sub tropical plants, normally under glass, thrive outdoors here. Stop for a coffee or lunch at the Plantation Room cafe.
  • There are coastal paths within walking distance of the house, part of the island's 500 mile network. The National Trust own the farmland leading down to the lighthouse below & cliff paths take you west towards Freshwater Bay or east towards Ventnor.
  • Enjoy the beach at nearby Steephill Cove, only accessible on foot & have lunch there at the Crab Shack ( try Mandy's famous crab pasties ) In the summer the Boathouse restaurant is open & there are kayaks for hire to paddle around the cove.
  • Explore Ventnor 10 minutes drive away. There is an excellent swimming beach, independant shops, pubs & good restaurants. During August Ventnor has its own Fringe Festival, a week of events including music, theatre & film.
