Richeldis - Self-catering cottage in Norfolk
5 Egmere Road, Little Walsingham, NR22 6BT, Norfolk
England,
Regno Unito
This small flint cottage dates from 1680 and was supposedly once owned by Cardinal Hume, or was probably gifted to him as he was a regular visitor to Walsingham. It’s on the end of a terrace at the edge of the village, which lies five miles south of Wells.
Find a welcome hamper from the nearby farm shop with milk, bread, butter, local jam or marmalade, eggs and locally made cake, plus seasonal fruits such as raspberries and strawberries in summer. The cottage has maps and walking routes as well as plenty of magazines and games for a rainy day, and a secluded courtyard to make the most of any sunshine.
The north Norfolk coast has miles of beaches and walks of varying distances, and you can take a boat trip to Blakeley Point to see the seals, to Burnham Market for fantastic independent shops or Pensthorpe Nature Reserve for a grand day out. Return to an evening by the blazing log fire or head to the Black Lion for good pub food.

Diane Jenkins:
- Walsingham is a major centre of pilgrimage. In 1061, an Anglo-Saxon noblewoman, Richeldis de Faverches, had a vision of the Virgin Mary in which she was instructed to build a replica of the house of the Holy Family in Nazareth in honour of the Annunciation.
- Little Walsingham boasts a marvellous array of historic buildings with medieval timber-framed architecture, Georgian buildings and facades. The earliest examples are found in the grounds of the Ruined Augustinian Priory c1153.
- Walsingham boasts an award winning farm shop, selling produce from the Walsingham Estate farms and local suppliers. The village store on the high street stocks everyday essentials plus newspapers and an off-licence.
- The famous Wells & Walsingham Light Railway runs between the Norfolk seaside town of Wells-next-the-Sea and the beautiful Abbey village of Little Walsingham.
- We are ideally located for Fakenham Races, Pensthorpe nature reserve, Holkham, Burnham Market, Wells Next the Sea and several National Trust Properties.
