Errington House - Bed & Breakfast in Northumberland
Humshaugh, NE46 4HP, Northumberland
England,
Regno Unito
Carolyn is a superb cook; breakfast on homemade bread, jams and marmalade, eggs from their hens, local sausages and bacon. You eat around the big dining table with other guests.
The Dowies' handsome farmhouse and gardens are deeply peaceful and you can make yourself completely at home. Watch birds from a comfortable chair outside, sit and read in your airy bedroom or take a cup of tea to the guest sitting room and throw another log on the fire.
You can walk from the house (or drive ten minutes) to Hadrian’s Wall. Corbridge and Hexham have plenty of interest for an afternoon out and hum with shops, cafés and restaurants. Bring a group of friends for a walking holiday if you stay between June and October – Lex is hugely knowledgeable about the county.

Carolyn Dowie:
- Errington House lies only a mile north of Hadrian’s Wall. Situated on the best bit of the Wall for walking, and all within easy reach, are Birdoswald, Housesteads, Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum, Steel Rigg, Chesters and the Sill.
- Also within half an hour you will find: Wallington Hall, Belsay Castle & Gardens, Cragside - Lord Armstrong’s great house, Gibside, and Capability Brown’s first work at Kirkharle. A little further away is Durham with its Cathedral and Bishop’s Palace.
- Pretty Corbridge, on the banks of the Tyne, is only minutes away, with excellent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs, and a beautiful Anglo-Saxon Church. Hexham is the local market town, also very attractive with a splendid Abbey and very good facilities.
- The famous Northumberland Coastline with its beaches and castles and other attractions can easily be reached and enjoyed. Visit Alnwick Castle & Gardens, Craster and Howick Hall, Alnmouth, Bamburgh, Lindisfarne, Beadnell, Seahouses and Warkworth.
- Not “touristy”, but well worth a visit, is the City of Newcastle with the Baltic Arts Centre, Sage Concert Hall, and the beautiful “Winking Eye” Millennium Bridge, all along the spectacular Quayside. Pilgrimages to St James’ Park can also be made.
- On the sporting front there are 6 excellent golf courses within less than half an hour’s drive, fishing (and wild swimming!) on the Tyne and the Coquet, several shooting estates, and up at Keilder water sports, mountain biking and “Dark Sky” star gazing
