You enter a spacious and beautifully decorated seating area – very much an informal inn rather than a hotel. The feel is country house with lovely old rugs on a stone tiled floor, stripped back beams and a vibrant range of original art. Logs blaze in the stone fireplace, there's plenty of comfortable seating and a merry mix of locals and visitors enjoying the excellent hand-pumped ales and locally sourced food.
Bedrooms, seven in the inn and five in the Coach House, are decorated in individual style (by Octavia Dickinson no less) with rich, thick fabrics, soft woollen blankets and eclectic art. Antique furniture glows and bathrooms have Bamford soaps and lotions. Modern British cooking starts with the freshest seasonal ingredients and much is homegrown or reared at Hodnet Hall Gardens and the estate farms. You'll eat very well.
On balmy days you can enjoy a pint on the terrace with its café-style tables and pretty planters.
