Medieval manor house and busy farm. A welcoming atmosphere, big bedrooms, breakfast in the baronial great hall by the cosy log fire

Come for atmosphere and architecture: the Grade I-listed manor-farmhouse is remarkable. Medieval stone, soaring beams, four-posters, ecclesiastical windows, giant logs blazing in the Great Hall. Ann and Ian look after guests and busy dairy farm with equal enthusiasm. Furnishings are rich, bedrooms are large and the oak-panelled suite (with secret stairway) takes up an entire floor.

The stable rooms are simpler and of course less majestic but may suit those who prefer privacy. Aga breakfasts with local sausages, bread from the local baker and homemade jams are eaten at the long polished table in the Hall. Don't miss the excellent farm shop - there's a café too with cakes, drinks and produce from the area. You're on the doorstep of the Quantocks for many walks, the Coleridge Way is also near which takes you onto Exmoor. Cyclists can store bikes safely in the old Chapel.

Cannington village is one mile by car and has shops and pubs.
