In the rolling folds of the Cotswold countryside is this 18th-century coaching inn, polished to perfection by Tania and her team. Beautiful fireplaces and gleaming tables, fine china and big sprays of wildflowers tell a tale of comfort and luxury, while the smiling staff are rightly proud of this gem of a pub. You dine well in the sparkling bar, or in the clever conversion at the back, overlooking grounds that are part orchard, part walled garden.
Borrow wellies in your size for a bracing walk, then back to your beautiful bed above the bar; rooms, named after ducks, have fully stocked pantries with tea, coffee and drinks. At any time of day you can hang out in Granny Baylis Pantry for hot drinks and slices of cake. Wake to a good breakfast, stay in for supper; food is a mix of innovative and classic dishes from seasonal menus and weekend specials.
Sip a local ale or one of their gorgeous cocktails on the rear terrace, with heaters and a fire pit for when it gets chilly.
