It feels delightfully remote and romantic pitching up at this renovated stone hay barn circled by mountains with a stream gurgling past, wildflower meadows, a rope swing for children (and the young at heart) and a duck pond. But civilisation isn't far: for bookish delights head to Hay-on-Wye and for slap-up meals try the Felin Fach Griffin, both half an hour by car.
Your charming hideaway fans out across the first floor (beneath you is storage, one day it may be a games room) with a big porch for muddy togs then a warm and inviting open-plan space. You'll be cosy after a blustery walk in the Black Mountains with the wood-burner roaring and supper bubbling on the stove in the sociable kitchen area.
Sit on the patio and watch for red kites, ravens and buzzards, listen out for the cuckoo - night skies will be star-filled. A master bedroom with stunning mountain views and a sweet twin share a bathroom where you'll find soaps and hand lotion from a local lavender farm.
