Wild Meadow - Self-catering cottage in Powys
Presteigne, LD8 2LB, Powys
Wales,
Regno Unito
You’re on the fringes of Presteigne, tucked into a meadow with a kitchen garden you may plunder, an orchard, small pond and glorious views. Children can safely go free-range while you sit out on the terrace. Inside, the open-plan living space is bright and welcoming with a wood-burner for when you’re stuck indoors.
It’s a ten-minute walk into town and a high street filled with independent shops, pubs and cafes. Visit the fascinating Victorian museum, Judge’s Lodgings, or The Spaceguard Centre & Observatory, entirely run by volunteers, in nearby Knighton. For food The Harp in Old Radnor (six miles) is open most days and does a good Sunday roast.
Head off into the Welsh countryside where walkers can join the Offa’s Dyke Path from the barn; follow the route from Presteigne to Knighton, a leisurely walk of about seven miles, with glorious views and sections of the earthworks visible at points. You can walk or bus back.

Local points of interest from Andrea Gilpin:
Punti d'interesse locali da
Andrea Gilpin:
- Enjoy the setting - explore three acres of orchards and meadows, relax by the pond and harvest produce from the kitchen garden. The cottage and shepherd's hut are situated far apart to ensure privacy and both have fine views across the valley.
- East Radnorshire has the highest density of bridleways & legal green lanes in Britain. Here you can travel across miles of open hill, moorland & single tracks with the buzzards & red kites soaring above.
- Voted by a national newspaper as one of Britain’s top 10 small towns, Presteigne is quite a gem. Stunning architecture, independent shops, farmers markets, river walks and nature reserve, leisure centre and many good pubs and eateries.
- Presteigne is situated in a cluster of attractive market towns including the popular towns of Hay on Wye and Ludlow. Both are great to visit - they have regular markets and hold annual events such as Food, Literature, Medieval and Philosophy festivals.
- If you love gardens, there is no shortage here; Hergest Croft, Hampton Court Gardens, Stockton Bury Gardens and Powis Castle to name but a few. There are also many local National Garden Scheme open days through the year.
- Very well situated for walkers, Wild Meadow is a short stroll from Offa's Dyke Path (named by the Lonely Planet guide as one of the world's top 10 wall walks). Great on and off road cycling too. We have OS maps you can use and have mapped out local routes.
