This château B&B is run with warmth and energy: Stéphane cooks brilliantly and loves wine, Florence is enormous fun. There’s a laid-back feeling here. Big, sunny bedrooms overlook beautiful grounds tumbling with roses and birds flit between the trees. Float in an infinity pool, sunbathe on treetop decks, dip in the hot tub.
Breakfast on croissants, French ham and cheese or eggs if you want, borrow tackle to fish in the lake or spin off on borrowed bikes to visit châteaux and quiet lanes (don’t forget to reserve dinner later). It’s paradise for families with space all around for children to run free, plus badminton, football and table tennis.
It’s quiet in the Perigord, château-studded and rich in history and cuisine. There’s much to see within driving distance: Vézère’s cave drawings, Issigeac’s Sunday market, canoeing on the river.

"A lovely peaceful retreat in the Dordogne countryside, but with lots to do on site, if you wish. The pool and hot tub were most welcome to aid the relaxation. Our hosts, Florence and Stephane were very welcoming and the room and breakfasts delightful. Hoping to return in the future, but next time with rod and line, as there is a most inviting fishing lake within the grounds"

"I stumbled on this wonderful chateau while my husband was in hospital in Bergerac. Stephane and Florence were so welcoming to this waif and stray sans mari and just as welcoming when said mari managed to escape from the Centre Hospitalier and join me at this oasis of calm and peace that is Chateau Gauthie. Breakfast was a feast and one night Stephane cooked supper for all the guests which was as delicious as it was fun. The surrounding area is beautiful and there are bikes for those who want to work off some of the extra pounds gained thanks to Stephane et Florence! A fabulous stay."

"We had an unforgettable visit. Florence was enormous fun and utterly delightful: a real breath of fresh air! Her breakfasts were superb. It was fascinating and awe-inspiring to be shown all the recent projects in the grounds and also the book of photos recording the loving restoration of the old chateau from a near ruin to its present glory. It is not merely grand but a real home with warmth and great charm, and many touches of quirky humour. Even on a wet April evening, Roger loved the hot tub! Nearby Issigeac is a charming and interesting old town and there are excellent places to eat."
