Down the country driveway that splits into two (each leading to a gîte) is a sweet little hideaway, a stone cottage for two (and a child). There's a gravelled area outside with a strip of lawn and a terrace for sunsets, and views to the Pointe du Raz, Brittany's Land's End - you can see the Île de Sein on a good day. Step into a fresh, open-plan and tile-floored space: a compact kitchen, sunny and bright, with a fridge, microwave and oven, and a sitting room with a vast open fireplace (sheer delight on a dark windy night).
Find deep sills and upright timbers, a little sofa, wicker chairs, the original staircase. Up to the mezzanine to find a single bed, then into the comfortable bedroom with skylights in white sloping walls; the shower room is downstairs. Bucolic views are framed by thick stone walls and the window sills are deep.
Visit markets, pack a picnic and head for the coast - the beaches are sublime and you can sail.
