The sawmill and forge are centuries old. Former machinery is on display and an exciting glass floor reveals the stream below. Bedrooms (one on the ground floor, four under the eaves) are simple yet luxurious: organic toiletries and beautiful linen.
Don't miss La Maison du Comté in Poligny, a traditional dairy a half hour drive, or Les Salines, the saltworks down the road. Hike amid oaks and beeches - the Jura mountains are covered in them - and return to teatime treats. Tea or hot chocolate? Crêpes or madeleines? Marie's breakfasts, bistro dinners and table d'hôtes too are a wonder - locally sourced and inevitably delicious.
