800 years of history, six years of renovation, four charming rooms, and a host who knows his way around a kitchen – we’re sold. The house is four-storied, honey-stoned, and bang in the middle of Mailhac, a medieval village of ancient arches and cobblestones. Inside are hand-hewn beams, centuries-old tiles, wooden shutters, and cool white walls.
You can spread out in a generous kitchen/diner and two cosy sitting areas – the music room spills onto a terrace. There’s even a tiny gym if you're feeling virtuous. En suite bedrooms are comfortable with rocking chairs and village views; two have freestanding baths. The Tower Room, tucked under the eaves at the top of three flights of stairs, has its own private patio.
Look out over terracotta-tiled rooftops to the hills beyond. Fire up the barbecue, sip something chilled and French (there are three winemakers in the village) and settle to a slower pace of life.

- Within a 5 minute drive (or 10 minute bike ride!) of Mailhac we have the village of Bize Minervois which has a river popular with swimmers and has a small number of restaurants, cafes and bars. You will see plenty of paragliders flying about the hills.
- Also around 15 minute drive is Le Somail on the Canal Du Midi (and other villages on the Canal Du Midi) where you can hire bikes, boats or just go for a stroll alongside the picturesque canal. River boats will take you on a trip up the oak tree lined canal.
- The perched village of Minerve is a 10 minute drive up the beautiful gorges of the Cesse and the Briant rivers. The historic village towers over the gorges below and has plenty of stories that bring colour to the history of the area.
- The historic city of Narbonne is around 25 minute drive from Mailhac. With it’s famous food hall, stunning cathedral, restaurants, cafes, shops, markets, canal, museums and much more there is plenty to keep you entertained.
- On the road to Argeliers you will see a centre for hiring quad bikes to go on a little adventure over the hills.
- Saint Chinian is another AOC in our area and is a lovely market town. Two bustling weekly markets operate in the town square and the Vernazobres river cuts through the town which is a great place for a plunge on a warm day.
