A gem of a château in the wilds of Limousin with kind and thoughtful owners who are thoroughly immersed in this tranquil area

Groups of friends, families and couples will gently unwind here in Patrick and Colette’s generous spirited, fuss-free care. Good food and wine for grown-ups, roaring fires in winter, the offer of an early supper for children and no lists of pesky rules.

There’s plenty of space for all, inside and out. Children can bound off to find the playground and jump in a lake while you laze beside the heated open-air pool. Breakfasts are sociable affairs with homemade jam and honey from their own bees, dinners of seasonal, home grown and local produce are candle-lit and outdoors as often as possible.

Wild swimmers, walkers and wildlife lovers will adore discovering this pretty, lake-filled, part of France. Roam through woods spotting deer, wild boar and birds of prey or hop in the car to lovely St Leonard de Noblat 15 minutes away. It brims with medieval history and is on the Compostella route.

Patrick & Colette Bergot:

  • Swimming lake with beach 1.5km- relax or swim in the clear waters. There are so many beautiful lakes nearby it's hard to choose one! There are walks or watersports - whatever floats your boat!
  • St Leonard de Noblat is on the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela and has a gothic Church with a tower that dominates the countryside - it's a charming town to visit, stroll around and choose a restaurant, or enjoy the famous pâtisseries of the area.
  • Limoges is of course famous for porcelain and also the "arts of fire": stained glass & enamel - you can visit the museum or just browse the factory shops - there's been a creative renewal with lots of new galleries emerging.
  • The Monts d'Ambazac offer stunning countryside and there are waymarked trails all over the region - but for those not wanting to put on hiking boots, you can enjoy several walks from the Château - including a lovely ramble along the river.
  • For those who are interested in WWII history we are 40 minutes away from Oradour sur Glane, with its excellent visitor's centre; a moving place to experience. There is also a Resistance Museum in Limoges.
  • We have great food markets and Les Puces - the brocante in Limoges is well worth visiting (second Sunday of the month).

Guest feedback
"We had two most memorable nights in this lovely chateau and would love to return some day. Our extraordinary beamed suite was comfortable, charming and amply provided with quirky objets d'art and fittings which included a loo in the tower. Our hosts cooked wonderful, generous dinners on both the nights we stayed and it was a real pleasure to talk with them and the other guests as we sat around the table. Our only thought was that guests over 6 foot tall might wish to ask for a suite on the first floor where ceilings are no doubt higher! Entry to the loo was via a doorway about 5 foot high!"
