La Vieille Forge - Self-catering house in Var
33 avenue Robert Fabre, 83440 Fayence, Var
Provence - Alps - Riviera,
Francia
Pass olive groves, vineyards and pine forests to this big sturdy house on the outskirts of the village, with airy, comfortable and spacious rooms facing away from the road and overlooking a huge garden with roses and more olive groves.
It's a fabulous place to share with family or friends, with a large sitting room sporting comfy sofas and heaps of books and board games, and a kitchen with a table that seats 10. In summer you can dine on the terrace shaded by a mulberry tree, and a smaller terrace is perfect for breakfast or evening drinks.
You can be in Cannes in 30 minutes as well as several other hilltop villages, all with distinctive character – nearby Mons has a medieval old town well worth a visit. Les Gorges du Verdon, the Grand Canyon of Europe, is an hour away. For dinner, head up the hill into the village: Fayence has restaurants galore.

Local points of interest from Cynthia & Peter Spillman:
Punti d'interesse locali da
Cynthia & Peter Spillman:
- The medieval village of Fayence with its bustling market (three times a week) is set in the hills behind the Côte d’Azur. Further up, we recommend a visit to the picturesque village of Mons. On a clear day you can see as far as Corsica.
- We feel that we have the best of both worlds here, being within easy reach of the coastal towns and beaches as well as of the mountains. There are other hill villages nearby, each with a very distinct character of its own and well worth exploring.
- One of France’s major gliding venues lies just at the foot of Fayence. The area is a paradise for cyclists, hikers and walkers, not forgetting water-sports enthusiasts who are served by the superb Lac St Cassien nearby.
- For golfers, the world-class Four Seasons Terre Blanche resort is only 5 minutes down the road. For adrenalin junkies, the Accrobranche Riviera Nature Grasse Forest park has zip lines & tree-top rope courses for adults & kids, plus views of the Riviera.
- The always breathtaking Gorges du Verdon which are known as Europe's answer to the Grand Canyon are always worth a visit. Slightly closer to home, the Siagne and Siagnole rivers offer all manner of beautiful scenery.
- A short walk from the house is the 11th century chapel Notre Dame des Cyprès. As its name suggests, it's surrounded by cypress trees and is an ideal spot to sit and reflect.
