Restored medieval priory turned country retreat on a family-run wine estate – swim in the infinity pool, taste wine or walk in the hills

This lovingly-restored house dates from the 9th century and is set in the foothills of Mont-Ventoux Biosphere Reserve. The charming house manager will greet you and the butler will help with your luggage.

Breakfast by the rose terrace overlooking the pool and enjoy home-grown cherries, apricots, almonds and honey from Xavier's bees; come evening dine in the medieval garden watching the sunset or on the terraced patio. Sample award-winning wines, swim in the heated pool, play tennis or take a cooking class (when the chef is available); you can also watch a film in the home cinema - guests can even enjoy a free wine tasting.

The nearby hilltop town of Crestet has narrow, cobbled streets, a medieval castle, an art museum, and a good, authentic Provencal restaurant – Xavier recommends L'Epicurien or La Loupiote pizzeria. Carpentras, a 45-minute drive away, has a famous market on Fridays with hundreds of stalls; historic Avignon is an hour away.
