Bask by the pool in the sun-trap garden. In winter, roast chestnuts by the fire. Two doors down from the medieval bridge, in a village that inspired Corot and Courbet, this little house sits tucked into a historic row.
Up under the eaves the bedroom is tiny, though the bathroom is large, as are the living rooms below. You could sleep four children in the sitting room (with a sofabed, a pull-out bed, and a curtain dividing the stairwell). Cook as you chat: the kitchen is light and lovely.
Walking paths abound; little shops, galleries and restaurants are a short stroll. Don’t miss the Romanesque church and its frescoes, or the minute chapel with its ‘miracle spring’. Saint Ceneri-Le-Gerei is filled with history and legend.
