Come for Michelin-starred Irish food, cooked with flair – not fuss – for comfort and to connect with the extraordinary Burren landscape

Read guest comments

It’s lovely to walk in to this revamped 19th-century Inn with its fresh flowers, tweedy furniture, piano and log fires in the bar. Kate and Aidan’s style is warm and calm and it’s clear the whole team minds that you enjoy your stay.

Whole weekends can be devoted to exploring the Burren (on foot and by bike) with its unique flora, megalithic tombs and dolmen. Visit other border villages like Ballyvaughan and Kilfenora.

Aidan sources food meticulously from his country’s ‘natural larder’ keeping things seasonal, rustic and flavourful - cooking along classic French lines - using organic vegetables, berries and herbs; local game; wild fish, shellfish and organically farmed salmon from Clare Island. He cooks a jolly good breakfast too; try the Smoked haddock omelette, homemade bread and handmade sausages. Slow Food Clare has really taken off and as Ireland's only Michelin Star pub - you'll definitely be in for a treat.

  • The stunning Cliffs of Moher are only a short drive from the Inn. They are over 200 metres high and run for over 8 km along the Atlantic Ocean. Over 30,000 pairs of seabirds including a number of protected species nest at the Cliffs of Moher.
  • The Burren landscape in North Clare is one of the largest and most accessible Karst regions in the world. It is the only place on the planet where Arctic, Mediterranean and Alpine plants grow side-by-side.
  • The Burren area is an ideal base for those in pursuit of outdoor adventure. There are many walking and cycling routes in the area as well as sea kayaking, surfing, rock climbing, horse riding and golf.
  • There are many archaeological sites in the area. The oldest and best known is the Poulnabrone portal dolmen. Look out for tower houses, holy wells, penitential stations, round towers and much more. This heritage gives us a privileged insight into the past.
  • The underground cave system of the Burren is one of the largest in Europe. There are two open to the public. Aillwee Cave near Ballyvaughan and Doolin Cave where you can view the (7.3 metres) longest free-hanging stalactite in the Northern hemisphere.
  • Throughout the summer there are many festivals and organised events for the visitor to enjoy. These include the 'Burren in Bloom' festival and the 'Burren Slow Food' festival in May. Burren Food trail and Burren Adventure trail.

"Oh such a dreamy country inn! Kate & Aidan will really look after you in style. We had one of the garden rooms which was lovely and quiet, with a bath for some soaking after a serious hike along the Cliffs of Moher (a must see). We took G&Ts from the bar onto our terrace, and followed them with dinner in front of the fire from a fantastic, lively menu (the lamb was some of the best we've had). The feel is 'miles from anywhere' but just a few steps down the road we found the local Smokehouse, a microbrewery, and a great little pub with traditional Irish music sessions. Top marks."

"My husband and I were on our first visit to Ireland, stayed two nights at Wild Honey Inn, and we both loved it. Upon our arrival, Kate immediately offered us tea and coffee, which was very welcome. Our room was cozy, clean and comfortable with good beds - Kate and Aidan have done a good job of maintaining the feel of a country inn while providing modern comforts. The inn has an excellent location for touring the area. But above all else, we remember the food, which was outstanding. Breakfasts are served in a lovely bright dining room overlooking a large garden where we could watch the birds. There is a beautiful array of cereals and granola along with yogurt and milk, and then you have a choice of cooked breakfasts prepared by Aidan from fresh, local ingredients. The coffee was also outstanding. We lingered over our breakfasts both mornings. We also had dinner at the restaurant both nights, and we had fantastic meals. Beautiful seafood, excellent beef. The service was not rushed, and we stretched our meal over 3 hours since we had planned on the meal being our evening event. The wine list was reasonably priced and again, the coffee was excellent. Many thanks to Kate and Aidan for a wonderful stay."
