Picín - Bed & Breakfast in Co. Kerry
Brackaragh, Caherdaniel, V93 C7X9, Co. Kerry
Munster,
Irlanda
The loveliest hideaway for two where you may both decide to live in the bathroom, more opulent than most drawing rooms. A cast-iron roll top stands on herringbone boards, a wood-burning stove creates heart-warming cosiness, a velvet antique sofa embraces the non-bathing conversationalist and a Tudor wardrobe just looks benign. Amelia and Nick – warm and artistic – have stroked every little stone alcove back to life. You arrive via your own garden and terrace into a big light space rich in oriental rugs, a bold red sofa, a wall of books and an antique rocking horse. Through that amazing bathroom, steep stairs bring you to the softly muted bedroom in greys, blues and creams where touches of pure luxury finish the seduction: fine cotton bedlinen, a silk bedspread, a painted chest, stone walls hung with a fascinating choice of paintings. All done with such loving care, this is no run-of-the-mill B&B – cake or cocktails on arrival, and beautiful breakfasts, too. One of their guests likened it to staying at the Waldorf Astoria. Great value.
