Your own rustic-chic cottage, with a velvet antique sofa and a wood-burner in the bathroom - lit on arrival. Beautiful, original, enticing!

Read guest comments

The loveliest hideaway for two where you may both decide to live in the bathroom, more opulent than most drawing rooms. A cast-iron roll top stands on herringbone boards, a wood-burning stove creates heart-warming cosiness, a velvet antique sofa embraces the non-bathing conversationalist and a Tudor wardrobe just looks benign. Amelia and Nick – warm and artistic – have stroked every little stone alcove back to life. You arrive via your own garden and terrace into a big light space rich in oriental rugs, a bold red sofa, a wall of books and an antique rocking horse. Through that amazing bathroom, steep stairs bring you to the softly muted bedroom in greys, blues and creams where touches of pure luxury finish the seduction: fine cotton bedlinen, a silk bedspread, a painted chest, stone walls hung with a fascinating choice of paintings. All done with such loving care, this is no run-of-the-mill B&B – cake or cocktails on arrival, and beautiful breakfasts, too. One of their guests likened it to staying at the Waldorf Astoria. Great value.

  • Our cottage is on both the Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland’s breath-taking coastal driving route and the Ring of Kerry, with its ancient mountains, lakes and unspoilt beaches. World-class golf courses are close by, as well as game fishing and sea angling.
  • We’re 10 minutes from Derrynane National Park, home of the Liberator, Daniel O’Connell, with its lovely walled gardens, stunning beach and woodland.
  • We are a good stopping off point for visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Skellig islands, an other-worldly 6th century monastery and haven for birdlife – a bucket list day out
  • A foodie’s paradise, our pretty market town Kenmare has a fantastic variety of restaurants, plus you can browse award-winning jeweller’s and photographers’ galleries
  • For people who love adventure, there’s kayaking, surfing and paddle boarding, sailing and windsurfing, as well as riding on the beach and mountain biking
  • Picin is in a Gold Tier Dark Sky Reserve. Only one of three in the world, we gained the award because of the wonderful clarity of our night skies, unmarred by light pollution

"What an absolutely fantastic 3 nights we had here. We were welcomed like family and Amelia had stayed up late to show us around. Breakfast was at whatever time suited us and Amelia basically planned our trip for us with her extremely helpful tips and books and maps ! Nothing was too much trouble and we had the most brilliant time. A hot bubble bath after a wet windy walk was heavenly !"

"We spent four wonderful days here over the Easter weekend. It could not have been better. The space is large but cosy at the same time with a wonderful bathroom. Spending time in the huge bath with the fire going is the best way of recovering from long walks. Amelia is a fantastic host giving us great tips for things to do and places to eat while we were there. Breakfast is also amazing with Amelia's home made granola, jams and cooked breakfast. We can't wait to come back."

"We stayed here over the Eater Weekend and could not have chosen a better place to stay. In a beautiful part of Ireland we were spoilt every morning with Amelia's delicious homemade granola (i have stollen the recipe) and a cooked breakfast with local produce. The space is enormous and cosy at the same time with a wonderful freestanding bath in the bathroom in front of of a fire which is prepped ready to light every day. Nick was not there but Amelia could not have been a better host with great advice for local walks, trips, pubs and restaurants. We can't wait to come back."

"Our stay at Picin was magical. The cottage was tastefully renovated, every bit as charming and cozy as the surrounding countryside. And the bath is stuff of legend...unique and luxurious, a truly inspired creation. Nick and Amelia were wonderful hosts, providing the perfect balance of privacy and hospitality to make our stay one that will be remembered and talked about for the rest of our lives."

"Nick and Amelia were the most gracious and wonderful hosts. Our stay was remarkable, and they were both so accommodating to our erratic schedules. The cabin is beautifully restored, cozy, inviting and homey. Perfect blend of historical and modern; beautiful colors and artwork. We felt like we were on our honeymoon. The skylights over the bedroom allowed us to enjoy both the bright and stormy weather of the island. The location is perfect too as it is set in a wonderful rural area but easy driving to every sight and day trip you would want to take. We are already planning our next trip back."

"You won't find a cosier bathroom anywhere. The combination of roll top bath, reclaimed herringbone floor and wood burning stove with its own stack of peat was just intoxicating. Nick and Amelia are charming and friendly hosts, giving advice on what to see and do around their part of the Ring of Kerry, including beautiful sandy beaches close by."

"A beautiful B&B in a stunning location I would strongly advise Picin if you're looking for a special way to spend your visit to the Ring of Kerry. The B&B is a restored and extended old, dry-stone cottage and so has a unique connection to the history of the region that is difficult to match. However, this doesn't mean a compromise on comforts - far from it. The B&B is spacious, beautifully decorated and an extremely pleasant place to come back to after exploring the surrounding landscapes. The owners are lovely, welcoming and very accommodating. Without question, we will be going back."

"A delightful B and B with hosts to match . Nothing was too much trouble for Amelia and Nick and their pleasure in what they do is obvious. A wonderful 3 nights in an area that we had heard so much about but never visited proved an absolute joy with the bonus of returning to this lovely cottage every night a real plus!"

"My wife and I stayed at PIcin on our honeymoon for three nights and I have nothing but great things to say. Amelia was the perfect host - beautiful breakfast at our leisure and the cottage was imacculate. The bathroom and woodstove were as comfortable and romantic as it gets and the bedroom was a home away from home - comfortable, clean and charming. I would reccomend Picin to anyone visiting Ireland. The location is also fantastic with access to all that the Ring of Kerry has to offer. Thank you, Amelia! "

"The most delightful and charming hosts run this romantic and comfortable B&B. The house is beautifully presented, luxuriously spacious and welcoming. Outside the door the rugged Kerry coastline is breathtaking. Go for a romantic break, fabulous walks and great seafood, stay for the hospitality. Nick and Amelia strike the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth. We will be back."

"A most delightful B&B run by enthusiastic owners Nick and Amelia, Picin is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland close the the Ring of Kerry and the spectacular Kerry Way. We stayed for 2 nights and cannot recommend it highly enough. Tastefully furnished throughout with the bathroom every bit as opulent as its description. Breakfast was beautifully cooked and presented in our own private 'dining room'; full Irish one day and scrambled eggs and smoked salmon the next - we will definitely be back to this 5 star getaway!"

"We stayed in this wonderful B&B in August 2012. This is a two-storey getaway, perfect for a couple, on the south side of the Ring of Kerry. It is a wonderfully renovated country cottage, offering terrific breakfast, comfortable bed, great views out over the farmland, and a short drive to lovely places along the Ring of Kerry -- our favourite was Derrynane Beach nearby. Our hosts Nick and Amelia made us feel completely welcome and spoilt. Highly recommended!"

"A very special place to stay, situated off the "Ring of Kerry" between Castle Cove and Cahadaniel. The conversion is beautifully crafted, allowing the visitor their own lounge and eating area along with a very special bathroom and bedroom. Amelia and Nick gave us a very warm welcome, as well as some delicious home made scones on arrival and a good hearty Irish breakfast each morning. This is an idillic spot for a romantic weekend away and is close to the Kerry Way to get the stunning views over the Kerry coastline and mountains. A real treat."
