The bones of this 1830s building are beautiful: wooden shutters, lofty sash windows, stone and marble fireplaces, high ceilings. There are six bedrooms upstairs in the main house (no lift) all with views and a huge, elegant drawing room on this floor too - light floods through the enormous windows. There are also 15 smaller bedrooms with a more modern feel and a penthouse suite on the top floor.
Meals are taken in the brasserie style restaurant - Sash – from a pre-theatre snack to tempting brunch plates: Connemara salmon, artisan cheese boards, steaks. Breakfast is generous, with hot stuff cooked to order - full Irish, baked eggs... There’s a small garden and terrace for outdoor dining to the rear of the building.
It’s quiet here overlooking the People’s Park, but within walking distance of the city centre, good shops, vibrant bars and restaurants. Head to the Milk Market at weekends, the famed undercover market for food, drink and music.
