This zany-bright B&B is high in a 19th-century palazzo; inside it's as fresh and cheerful as its owners. Shiny-new bedrooms are themed by season – spring rose-pink, summery yellow, frosty blue-grey – and overlook a wide plane tree-lined viale leading to the river. Families have the chocolatey red of Autunno, with its sofabed, bath and windows over a quiet inner courtyard; artwork is by your host, Gianluca.
He and Consolata serve breakfast on the terrace; deliciously buttery wafts rise from the bakery downstairs. Feast on fresh breads and croissants, yogurts, cold cuts, eggs, jams and fresh fruits, hot chocolate, cappuccinos and Sicilian red orange juice.
It’s a five-minute walk to Saint Peter’s and the Vatican Museums, perfect for early tours before the crowds; stop off at Lemongrass on the way for wonderful gelato. Ottaviano-San Pietro metro station is a block away and you’re a 30-minute stroll to most of Rome’s delights.
