You're on the 7th floor (there is a lift) of an unremarkable 1950s building in the centre of chaotic Palermo near the high street. Every effort has been made to cut their carbon footprint (solar panels for energy and hot water, energy-saving devices, sustainable materials) and your host Vittorio is totally committed to not running a banal boutique hotel.
A marble staircase leads to nine clean-cut, soberly furnished bedrooms – white and coloured walls, soft taupe bedcovers, wall-mounted tellies, possibly a pot-planted terrace high above the street – each with a lively work of art, a smart shower room and organic bathroom stuff. No breakfast is served but you are left a basket with small sweet and savoury snacks – like a mini-bar you pay for what you take.
Fresh fruit, herbal teas and coffee are available all day in the communal space but you're surrounded by side streets with cafés and restaurants and you can walk to the old town.
