Villa Boscarino - Hotel in Sicily
Via L.A. Muratori 63, 97100 Ragusa
Sicily,
Italia
This striking 19th-century building, poised on a hill, was once the doctor's countryside home. Today, it's a boutique hotel with 14 contemporary rooms tucked within its old stone walls. Original tiled floors, arched windows and vaulted fresco ceilings juxtapose with a modern glass walkway, soothing spa and Eames furniture.
En suite bedrooms are a mix of sizes; those in the scented gardens feel more private, all have high ceilings and stay cool in the summer heat. One suite has a mezzanine bedroom reached by a spiral staircase, another has a jacuzzi under the stars, some have balconies.
Continental breakfast is served on the leafy terrace – enjoy local treats including ricotta, focaccia and chocolate from Modica. It's a short drive into the historic centre for an array of restaurants, and pretty Ragusa Ibla is a little further for a taste of real Sicily: labyrinthine lanes and old palazzi on shaded squares.
