A traditional Sicilian fortified estate or 'baglio' with glimpses of the sea from the vast courtyard. History is all around you and the peace is deep. Bedrooms are in the guesthouse - two in the old wine cellar, and the others arranged around the library/sitting room. All are a good size and exude the charm of an aristocratic farmhouse, with every piece of furniture either a family heirloom, or a tasteful re-design.
Breakfast includes a fresh cake of the day, along with warm croissants, fennel-seed bread, homemade marmalade, yogurts, fruits and nuts. Dinner is available if you ask: traditional Sicilian home cooking - a rare find. Head to the pool for a refreshing dip among a chorus of song birds, borrow bikes and set off through the vineyards spotting herons, storks and wildfowl. The beach is just a 15 minute pedal.
Take long walks on Isola Lunga, a unique island you can reach by wading.
