Alice’s Retreat - Self-catering house in Tuscany
Strada provinciale 158 delle Collacchie, 26, 58100 Marina di Grosseto
Tuscany,
Italia
A dirt path leads through maritime pines and wildflowers to a simple beach house. The air is scented with wild herbs and, steps away, the beach. This remote stretch of white sand is only reachable on foot, so you’ll rarely see another soul – a rarity in trendy Maremma.
Interiors are understated – white washed walls adorned with abstract paintings by Alice’s mother. The master bedroom perches above the rest of the house, catching those breathtaking views. In the kitchen – cool marble and everything you need to prepare a feast, gather everyone round the table under the vine covered pergola.
A truly peaceful place for outdoor living – doze on the porch, set up camp on the beach or cycle to Castiglione for an aperitivo. Nearby, there’s kite surfing, horseback riding, bike trails and the Etruscan village at Populonia; though soon, you’ll be longing to return for sunset swims and long evenings under a black sky bright with stars.

Local points of interest from Alice & Alessandro:
Punti d'interesse locali da
Alice & Alessandro:
- Marina di Grosseto is wedged between the Parco Naturale della Maremma and another nature preserve. It has a wide array of seafood restaurants and beachfront bars. There are numerous biking and walking trails, and the marina offers sailing, windsurfing and other water sports.
- Massa-Carrara has a wide and wild variety of landscapes, from the elegant and sought-after beaches of Versilia to the high mountains of the Apuane, with steep mountains made almost entirely of white marble forming steep green valleys.
- Rusellae was an important ancient town of Etruria (roughly modern Tuscany), which survived until the Middle Ages before being abandoned. The impressive archaeological remains lie near the modern frazione or village of Roselle (Italian: [roˈzɛlle]) in the comune of Grosseto.
- Saracen towers dot the shoreline, beacons of the one-time danger along the coast. Now they provide beautiful backdrops to sun-worshippers. Off-shore in the distance is the outline of the island of Elba, where Napoleon was exiled following his defeat.
- Manciano, a pretty hilltop town in the Maremma, has a well-maintained old town with a castle on top that was built in 1188. Also Pitigliano is a truly unique village - the town is dubbed "la citta' di tufo" for the rock that it not only is built of, but rests on.
- Parco dell'Uccellina, here you can rent bikes or go for wonderful hikes, explore old abandoned monasteries or chill on beautiful natural beaches.
