Tucked back from pretty Boscastle harbour, this storied 16th-century inn is a short stroll to invigorating clifftop walks along the South West Coast Path. North Cornwall is a delight to explore on two legs or four – it's rugged, wild and untouched.
Stuffed to the gills with history, three of the inn's rooms are said to be haunted. Not that it shows after a smart refurbishment. The turreted façade hides a characterful, fire-warmed bar while upstairs the high-ceilinged dining rooms are just the sort of place you'll want to feast on freshly cooked pub classics. There are a few inventive dishes to try and breakfast is a treat too. On sunny days head to the decked terrace.
Bedrooms come in four sizes, the best are tucked in the turrets with rolltop baths, the smallest will suit solo travellers or those on a short stay. All have spanking en suites with rainfall showers and locally made smellies for a post-stomp glow up.
