Minterne Parva Farmhouse - Self-catering house in Dorset
Minterne House and Gardens, Minterne Magna, DT2 7AU, Dorset
England,
Regno Unito
The house sits in a tiny, quiet hamlet surrounded by lovely countryside. Everything flows well inside with lots of interconnecting doors, two staircases (children will love disappearing up one and coming down another), a handy utility room for muddy boots, a good-sized sitting room and an elegant dining room – both with an open fire.
The farmhouse-style kitchen has plenty of kit, a range-style cooker and a door to the garden. You're left a welcome hamper of Dorset treats and a few basics in the cupboards. You also get free entry to the fabulous Minterne Gardens down the road – a trail with year-round interest and a unique collection of Himalayan rhododendrons and azaleas with waterfalls and rare trees.
Bedrooms and bathrooms are on the first and second floors – comfortable, chintzy and with plenty of light. Long summer evenings in the garden will be lovely – fire up the barbecue, chatter and sip, let children go safely free-range.

Sarah Newman:
- We are a 20 minute walk through the fields to Verne Abbas, a great village for the local store, The New Inn Pub for amazing food, a visit to The Abbey.
- Sherborne is a 12 minute drive away, Waitrose, Sainsbury are there, both deliver to the house. Lovely place to eat is The Green, and D'Urbeville's for a cocktail and browse around the crafts for sale.
- We love Sherborne for the Abbey, known as the Cathedral of Dorset, wonderful calendar of services, events and music recitals, a must visit, along with the antique shops and gifts shops, a delightful Dorset Town.
- Other great places to eat near the house are The Greyhound Inn, Sydling St Nicholas, The Brace of Pheasants and Plush.
- Our favourite beach spot is the Hive Beach Cafe, fab food and a lovely safe beach for swimming, all right in between the Jurassic Coast walks and Burton Bradstock.
