Long a family favourite which draws in the summer crowds after a day at nearby Cromer or on Holkham beach. You'll feel immediately at home in the cosy, rambling bars and dining rooms with blazing fires in feature fireplaces, old paintings and prints, shelves groaning with books and an eclectic mix of dining tables. Hunker down on a sofa and read the papers with a pint of Adnams or Brancaster Oystercatcher.
Seasonal menus draw on the rich Norfolk larder of produce – Cromer crab, Brancaster mussels, local farm asparagus and Letheringsett game in season. Breakfast on local eggs, bacon and sausages or Staithe Smokehouse salmon. Four gorgeous bedrooms wait upstairs with crisp linen and down on deep mattresses, en suite bathrooms with Bramley soaps and lotions, countryside views.
The suntrap front terrace is the place to be on warm days – in the summer holidays the outside bar and the barbecue in The Garden Shack is in full swing all day from Thursday to Sunday.

- Blakeney Quay is a timeless spot on the North Norfolk coast. You'll find a sand and shingle spit, salt marshes and sand dunes. You can also take a boat trip to see seals basking on Blakeney Point, always a hit with children.
- There are lots of vast sandy beaches on the North Coast, exactly where you'll want to be on a sunny day. Try Sheringham, Wells, Brancaster,. Gorleston or Horsey, and don't forget your bucket and spade.
- Bird watchers should head over to the ever popular RSPB Titchwell Marsh - wading birds, ducks and geese in autumn, avocets, terns and marsh harriers in summer.
- Don't miss Medieval Norwich, with its fine cathedral and mazy lanes. The Hanseatic centre of King's Lynn is worth a visit, too.
- You can visit Sandringham, where the Royal family spends Christmas. Other big houses to see up here include Blickling Hall, Oxburgh Hall and Houghton Hall.
- There are some excellent golf courses on the north coast - The Royal West Norfolk at Brancaster Staithe, Sheringham and Royal Cromer are all excellent.
